Today, at last, Raffie’s friend Bojingles “Bo” arrived at the Sanctuary.  After more than three months alone in a pasture after Raffie was moved to the Sanctuary, Bo was turned over to Equamore.  As the truck and trailer approached the property where she has lived, her eyes followed the trailer, as if she remembered it as the one that would take her to Raffie.

As she came out of the trailer at the Sanctuary and went into her new stall and run, she called out.  Raffie, who was at the time in the outdoor arena with his gelding herd, snapped his head toward the sound.  And he called back.  Raffie was brought to his stall next to Bo, and the two seemed familiar yet sweetly shy together.

Bo is a lovely Arab mare, whose dark eyes and skin contrast to her light grey coat.  Her former owners report that she has had laminitis, and she does exhibit some lameness issues.  Today, Bo has a new home next to her long time-friend and started right away on the supplement and pain medicine regimen for our horses with laminitis.  Eventually, she will have radiographs and join our “foot fetish” project.

Bo will now have the chance to live naturally in a herd instead of alone for the rest of her life, have her lameness issues addressed, and be with her long time companion Raffie.

Raffie’s health has improved dramatically with dental work, special feed and medicine for his Cushing’s disease, but he had not as yet made friends.  Today, Bo’s arrival into the stall next to his, completes for Raffie the journey of finding “Sanctuary.”
