Gato was abandoned through a sale of a boarding facility. He was not accounted for in the list of boarders, the seller could not or would not provide information about his owner, and the new owners did not have the resources or knowledge to deal with this horse. Gato also presented health issues and needed attention to his teeth, lots of high quality hay and special feeds, and eye care for his damaged left eye.

The new owner tried through Facebook, the Sheriff’s office, word of mouth, etc. to find Gato’s owner, all to no avail. After consulting with friends, the new stable owner decided to have Gato put down. Fortunately for Gato, the owner’s partner objected and one last call was made to the Equamore Foundation.

At Equamore, Gato’s medical and health issues were addressed. He was turned out daily with a blind horse named Juan and became content and accustomed to his new home.

He was a sweet and gentle horse, alway friendly and easy to handle. Clearly someone loved this horse at some point before he arrived at Equamore. Was he abandoned because he was “used up” or because he was developing medical problems? We cannot know, but we do know that he was cared for and loved for the rest of his life at our Sanctuary.
