Companion Reunion

  • Grey Westphalian/Connemara Cross Mare
  • Entry Date – August 17, 2021 in her early-twenties
  • Type of Rescue – Surrender by Owner
  • Reason – A Companion Horse for Ella
  • Special Needs – None

Equamore was contacted by a woman who had been watching a developing situation with Lady Bird (aka Swallow) and a very large pony (POA) named Ella for quite some time.

After Lady Bird’s 27-year-old mother had passed, she became a campion horse to Ella until the property was sold to a relative. The sale included the agreement that Lady Bird and Ella would be allowed to live out the remainder of their lives together on the property. But, things changed and the owners decided both horses would be moved together to another property. The attempt to load both horses into the trailer failed (see Ella’s story). Ella was left behind and Lady Bird, who was hysterical, was moved to the new property anyway.

A resident at the facility where Ella remained after Lady Bird was moved contacted Equamore. She pleaded that we accept Ella into the Sanctuary because she was most likely going to be euthanized. Not only was Ella accepted by the Foundation, but so was Lady Bird, allowing both horses to be reunited and live as companions for the remainder of their lives.
