Starting Over Again

  • Liver Chestnut Kentucky Mountain Mare
  • Entry Date – January 2, 2023 at Age 10
  • Type of Rescue – Seizure by Jackson County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • Reason – Neglect & Abuse
  • Special Needs – Hoof Care

Latte arrived with the stallion Santana, his mother Zenchu, and three others: Midnight, Santasia, and Eclipse.

Nothing much is known of this herd’s past. They were seized by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in a criminal neglect case on January 2, 2023.

When Latte arrived at the Sanctuary, she was very much overweight with grossly overgrown feet, and her mane and tail were matted and tangled. She has a very kind and cooperative disposition but was extremely nervous and leery of her new caregivers.

She and Midnight occupy a small field with a shelter next to the main barn and enjoy their turnout time with several other horses including all the herd mates they were rescued with.
