On June 8th, we welcomed a very special soul to Equamore: Haven, a 26-year-old Arabian mare whose name reflects exactly what she found here, a safe place. Haven’s story came to us on the very edge of tragedy. That afternoon, we received a call from a young girl searching for someone who could save this mare from being euthanized. Little is known about Haven’s past, but what we do know speaks volumes.
About seven years ago, she was bought from a feedlot and taken in by a woman who reportedly “broke” her, only to leave her behind at a ranch in Eagle Point, OR. Four years later, that same woman was planning to have her euthanized. Thankfully, the ranch owner stepped in and gave Haven to the same family that brought her to us.
Despite efforts, we’ve been unable to uncover more about her history. What we do know is this: Haven has faced death more than once, yet somehow, she always finds a way to survive. Now, at last, she’s truly safe.
