The Wrong Horse At The Wrong Time

  • Appaloosa Gelding
  • Entry Date – 3/16/07 at age 6
  • Type of rescue – Surrendered
  • Reason – Owner could no longer ride because of a back injury unrelated to horse
  • Special needs – None

Sometimes, things just don’t work out. Gizmo’s owner injured her back in a car accident, making it impossible for her to continue training the young Appaloosa gelding, who was prone to “spooking” and “bucking” when surprised or stressed. Although Gizmo has received training under saddle since he has been at the Sanctuary, he remains a tense horse. Unpredictable and unsafe, he remains a difficult horse even for the most experienced rider.

Still, the volunteers at the Sanctuary find a particularly cute charm to him. One even calls him “Spotted Man” from time to time.

Now he spends his days in the big front fields with his buddies April, Toiy, Hazel, Cosmo, and Gael. Because the horses in the herd have different dietary needs, Gizmo spends his nights with the “easy keepers” – Toiy, April, and Hazel – in a smaller field with a four-stall shelter.
