THE ROAD TO SANCTUARY

If you ever plan to motor west Travel my way, take the highway that’s the best Get your kicks on Route 66” ~song writer Bob Troup |

Even though the Oregon highway that borders Equamore Sanctuary isn’t the famous Chicago to Los Angeles route featured in the 1960’s television series, fifty-five rescued or retired horses still “get their kicks on Route 66.” The drafts, regular-sized horses, ponies, and minis are alive and kicking because of your generosity. Since the establishment of its Sanctuary in 2012, Equamore Foundation, through your contributions, has made enormous strides in achieving the milestones set by the Board of Trustees and published on Equamore Foundation’s GuideStar “Impact Statement” page at www.guidestar.org.
But danger lies on the road ahead as donations dwindle, the cost of horse care continues to rise, and law enforcement refers even more abandoned and neglected horses, a total of 18 additional animals in 2012/13. That’s why this newsletter is a plea for help. The need is simple: our Anniversary Milestone of $75,000 must be made by May 1st. Even though we have a generous donor who will match your contributions up to $25,000, we’ve not yet reached this important obligation. For that reason, we‘re asking you to open your heart and checkbook with an additional one-time donation to this fiscal destination.
Our second milestone is to increase the number of Equamore Friends and Horse Rescue Team members who contribute monthly so that regular expenses are met or exceeded by regular income. For that reason (and because of a sharp increase in the cost of hay) the Board has raised the Buy-a-Bale monthly contribution amount from $12 to $20 for all new friends or team members and is asking those who already contribute to consider raising their monthly donations. Without these increases in revenue, the journey along Route 66 could get bumpy. The animal welfare mission of the Foundation simply cannot continue at the currently necessary levels without additional resources.
So take that highway and travel our way. The trip ends so well for so many!
