Tebow was used for endurance racing for a number of years and at he even competed in at least one grueling hundred mile race. When his racing career ended, however, the bay gelding fell on hard times. He was sold at a horse auction in Klamath Falls, despite his emaciated condition, to a buyer that had hopes of him being a trail horse.

After purchasing Tebow, his new owner realized that he was simply too much horse for her experience. Like many sport horses, the requirements of competition made Tebow so “hyper” that when he saw a saddle he prepared for what he thought was coming: an all-out contest requiring the expenditure of every ounce of mental and physical energy he could muster.  Sitting on a horse like this is like sitting on a time-bomb. Because she realized that it would take more skill than she had, Tebow’s rescuer surrendered him to the care of the Foundation’s more skilled volunteers.

Although Tebow was physically very healthy, he had separation anxiety when separated from his stall mates and sometimes became hysterical when turned into the arena to exercise on cold rainy days when the horses were not turned into the fields. Even in the field, he was the first horse wanting to come in from his daily turnout to the safety of his stall and all the hay he could eat.
