Early Retirement

  • Grey TB Gelding
  • Born March 21, 2008
  • Entry Date – March 27, 2021
  • Type of Rescue – Retirement
  • Reason – Too Dangerous to Ride
  • Special Needs – None

After five years of owning Grey, his owner was faced with the realization that Grey was just too dangerous to be ridden. Multiple trainers and horsemanship programs failed to tame Grey. Under saddle he would buck, rear, and bolt, and his ground manners were deplorable. There was one person who handled Grey at the boarding facility, but he was leaving soon. Unable to find a facility or handler who wanted to deal with him, the owner agonized over Grey’s future and euthanasia was just not an option the owner would to consider. She wanted him to be happy and live out his full life even though she could no longer work with him safely. Equamore was contacted and arrangements were made for Grey to retire at the Sanctuary and live the remainder of his life just being a horse.

His manners have improved greatly since his arrival at the Sanctuary and he has formed a bond with a little Quarter Horse named Snoop. They have side by side stalls at night and are turned out into the “couples’ field” with other herd mates to graze and exercise during the day.
