Last month, we lost two of our most beloved horses. Both Johnnie B. Goode and Bader came to Equamore in appalling condition. Both appeared to have recovered, but that recovery was tentative, as it is with most horses who have suffered abuse or neglect.
The race has been run, the mint juleped, the wine pulled, the tickets raffled, the guitar strummed, the hats doffed, the tents struck, the chairs folded, and the barn door closed. And we’re ready to do it all over again in 2016.
We’re celebrating all the horses whom our donors helped go “Beyond the Finish Line” of abandonment or abuse, and you’re invited. Join us on Saturday, May, 2, 2015 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
In 2008 Equamore Foundation created the Oregon Hay Bank to give a helping hand to horse owners in temporary financial crises. The bank stockpiles two kinds of hay: the kind that grows on the ground and the kind that doesn’t grow on trees. OHB is proof positive that a small number of concerned, motivated people can make a difference for those who encounter temporary financial difficulties.
Sahara, no longer Sarah, is re-born and proves herself in the snow. Photo shows what happens when a horse reaches up to get some green from a snow-covered pine tree in the middle of winter.
A story that demonstrates that rescue is a process not a single event.
The Spring NeighSaver (web version) has a new format and updates on Echo Star, Woody, Diamond and Flint, and other Equamore news. Check it out, and don’t forget to come back to donate or join a rescue horse team.
Think of how much better it could have been for Woody and the other horses who finally found sanctuary with Equamore Foundation if their owners had chosen to take better choices for them.
