For years, Dewey was a pack horse used on hunting excursions and boarded at a facility in between trips. When the facility’s manager witnessed Dewey’s owner physically abusing him and threatening him with slaughter, the manager became Dewey’s first rescuer and took over his care. Unfortunately, Dewey’s rescuer died of cancer.
At the boarding facility, away from his owner, Dewey had developed a friendship with a pony. The pony’s owner was a dear friend of Dewey’s first rescuer who had passed, and she decided to take Dewey under her wing. She provided feed and supplements, which brought Dewey back up to an appropriate weight. She soothed his rain rot and began the process of rehabilitation by showing him kindness through regular care, affection, and grooming. When she had intervened to the best of her ability, Dewey’s newfound ally reached out to us here at Equamore in hopes that we could continue his care.
Dewey has wasted no time fitting in. This little roan Appaloosa has shown himself to be quite confident and is very comfortable turned out into the pasture with a herd of other geldings during the day and has shown no signs of aggressive or dangerous behavior.
