- Peruvian Paso Mare – Approximately 20 years of age
- Entry Date: 2/03/26
- Retired by Owner
Not much is known about Shadow’s early life or everything she endured before she was adopted two years ago by a caring person with the intention of giving Shadow a forever home. What is known is that she and another Peruvian Paso were left abandoned on a property by their owners. When neighbors finally called a rescue, Shadow was found starving, emaciated, and her hooves dramatically overgrown.
She was taken in by a woman who opened her home and barn to horses in need. It wasn’t a traditional rescue facility, but a place where volunteers came to help feed and care for the horses. Shadow remained there for nearly seven years. During that time, she was often at the bottom of the pecking order – frequently bullied by the other horses. Her weight was never properly managed, her hooves were neglected, and she was repeatedly overlooked for adoption. Human touch made her extremely nervous and reactive.
Her last owner heard her story and felt drawn to Shadow, adopted her, and placed her in a full-care barn so she could spend time with her and slowly become Shadow’s trusted guardian. Earning Shadow’s trust took a long time. She was skittish, guarded, and fearful of human contact. But with patience, consistency, and love, they formed a deep bond.
Shadow’s guardian retired her at the Equamore Sanctuary where she will remain for the rest of her life with the care she deserves and the companionship of other horses that she is compatible with.
