We Love to Celebrate!

Ciders, soups, and deserts greeted the guests on Saturday, December 6th at the first of two Year-End Open Barn Events at the Equamore Sanctuary. Some of our current donors, some potential donors, and some folks just interested in seeing what we do and spending time with the horses attended the two hour open house. Magic is Gone

Magic died yesterday evening. It was so sudden. The day before we were groomed and loved on together in the cross ties. Yesterday we had a great day in the fields. Suddenly, Magic was very sick, and then gone. I was with him, as were his human friends, and I stayed calm for him. Magic (aka “Buddy”)

Tragically for his close friend, Thor, Magic unexpectedly died as the result of a colic attack that came on with devastating speed and severity. Despite our veterinarians efforts to save him, Magic became another victim of this all too common malady which attacks a horse’s delicate digestive system.

Reunion!

More than a year after these three Percherons were rescued and brought to our Sanctuary, they were finally together and content.   While the stallions Gandalf and Flint were gelded soon after their arrival, behaviors can take a long time to change.  While Gandalf settled down quickly and became part of the gelding herd, Flint continued to show stallion behavior.   The first time Gandolf and Flint were together after being gelded, they resorted to fighting behavior.   Flint continued to try to…
