Departed Friends

These horses have lived out their lives after rescue under the care of the Equamore Foundation. Many lived with us for years; a few only for days. They are all missed. Click on each photo to see their pages.

Art in Motion

We love this!  A wonderful mosaic artist Karen Rycheck applied for a grant for a community art project.   The mural was designed from pictures of our horses!   Karen got the grant, and is now in the process of raising additional funds and designing the individual tiles. We can actually identify each horse in this beautiful work.   We sometimes think of our horses as art in motion. It is great to see art, horses and community come together.  Thank you…

I Love Hay

One of the things I love about my stall and run is that I can see the hay deliveries even when I am in the barn. I stare at those giant bales coming off the truck – what an amazing and wondrous sight!   I admire the hay barn loaded with fresh hay, imagining it all coming into my feed bin. These bales are so big the people need the tractor to move them. Until we got our new hay…

Taz (The Tasmanian Devil)

Taz’s stifle condition, at the end, made it impossible for him to get up when he needed to lie down to get the REM sleep horses must have. Again, we had to make the difficult decision humanely to end life when a horse’s condition no longer allows him to do more than suffer. We are heartened by the fact that Taz was an Equamore horse for over fourteen good years.

Casper’s Big Day

Casper, once labeled “afraid of his own shadow,” has blossomed into a sweet and loving horse. Each day everything at Equamore gets a little less scary (including the vicious leaf blower and even the potentially horse-eating fly system), allowing Casper’s true nature to begin to shine through. He is an incredibly affectionate horse who is learning to truly adore human attention. He will trot to the fence when called, just to say hi, and follows anyone around in the pasture,…

Back in the Mare Field and Loving It!

Well, with spring grass, Magic and I are back in the dry mare field.   Last year I was blue at this time.  But this year, it’s great.  First, the people re-fenced the fields and the mare field is huge – it goes all the way into the high pasture where I still talk to Hoover.     Second, Preston was removed – too interested in the mares – and the massive Percherons were moved to their new field.   (Diamond is one big…

A Message for Chance

Chance and I have had our differences – all over Bojingles, the lovely mare.   But today he lost Sassy who he had protected and guarded for years.  Even when the other horses in his herd ran off to the top of the field to play and graze, he stayed with the frail Sassy.   When Sassy could not go out at all, Chance stayed in, too.   When she called, he was always there for her.   This reminds me of when Hoover…
