Departed Friends

These horses have lived out their lives after rescue under the care of the Equamore Foundation. Many lived with us for years; a few only for days. They are all missed. Click on each photo to see their pages.

I’ve Been Thinking

I think a lot lately.  Hoover would call that a danger sign!     Magic just thinks it’s silly.  Magic says horses just live in the moment and planning and worrying is a human defect.   But I am not your average horse – I am Thor!    I have had some setbacks, or so the people say.  A little bolting here, a refusal to be caught there.   I need to figure this out. After all this time, I believe that the Sanctuary is…

Wishes and Eddie

Our two remarkable blind horses spend their days in the outside arena while the finishing touches are put on their new field.     Wishes has been blind for a long time, but her guide horse Shane passed away soon after they came to the Sanctuary.   Eddie has recently lost his sight and is adjusting with the lovely Wishes as his tutor.   These horses cannot be in the larger herds, as they do not recognize normal communication and warning signs from other…

Welcome to a Beautiful Jewel

At long last, the beautiful Jewel joined us today at the Sanctuary.    Tired after a long drive from northern Oregon, Jewel happily came out of her trailer and found her dinner in her new stall.     Jewel has had a long and difficult path, but thanks to Liz has finally made her way to her forever home.   Jewel spent her first full day relaxing with Liz getting to know the Sanctuary.  Soon Jewel will begin her integration into her new herd…

What’s Wrong With These Pictures?

What’s Wrong With These Pictures? These pictures are  wrong!    I know we look awesome.   Magic and I are behaving like gentlemen in the cross ties.    Our halters suit us.    But I’ll tell you what’s wrong here – IT IS DINNER TIME!    We were waiting at the gate to come in for dinner.   We are always first – the rest of our herd knows who is in charge here.   But instead of leading me to my stall where my hay was waiting,…

Welcome Royal Crown!

Meet Royal Crown, a wonderful Arab gelding surrendered to us this month from Central Point, Oregon. “RC”  is a very hungry guy!   He is also a big talker – he nickers to everyone who comes through the barn and calls to the other horses when he comes into the barn first in the afternoon.   Read his story on RC’s Page in our horse portfolio.

Ah, Magic!

Magic and I have become best of friends these last months.    Our stalls are next to each other—he has Hoover’s old stall with the great turnout.  We graze together; we roll in the mud together; when the fields are too wet, we hang out in the arena together; and we go to the cross ties together to have our feet cleaned.   While he teases me a bit about my crush on Bo, he understands my love of grey horses with…

Celebrate National Horse Protection Day!

The First Friday exhibit will feature five of Dana’s horse…

Bryant

Update on Bryant

January 28, 2013 Bryant has made so much progress since he got his special shoes.  Other than of course being more comfortable and energetic, Bryant is starting to interact with other horses.  He joined in Buckley’s favorite game of nip and scream, and raced around the arena in a game of chase with Pete, Mowen and Josey.  Perhaps Bryant has stayed to himself all this time because he didn’t feel sound enough for horse play with the guys.  Perhaps he…
