Applejack

«   |   »

A Sad New Beginning

  • Palomino Mare
  • Entry Date – July 25, 2023 at Age 10
  • Type of Rescue – Seizure by Jackson County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • Reason – Criminal Neglect
  • Special Needs – None

Applejack was seized by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on July 25th along with her companion, Caramel, a yearling filly who passed away the night of July 27th after their rescue just two days earlier. Caramel was grossly underweight and dehydrated when rescued. A third horse, just a little older than Caramel, had already died before intervention by law enforcement.

Although Applejack’s ribs were showing prominently, her appetite was normal and in just three weeks with proper nutrition, she is of good flesh. She will never be without water or miss another meal ever again.

After a period of quarantine, Applejack joined The General, the ponies, and miniature horses in the front pasture. Almost instantly, The General became attached to Applejack, so much so, that if he isn’t constantly aware of her presence, he becomes very agitated. We are all amazed that even though he is completely blind, he still manages to keep constant vigil over Applejack.
