Sara and Jewel Must Go

As you know, I am not fond of most mares.   Sara has driven me to distraction since Hoover and I arrived at the Sanctuary.  Beautiful, but an obnoxious little princess.    Now a new mare, Jewel, is just as bad.  Aside from being so possessive of Kizzy, she chases the lovely Bo.   Bo has some problems with her feet, like Magic and Hoover.   She also is friendly to all the other horses – even the sometimes testy little Sassy seems to…

Update on Bryant

January 28, 2013 Bryant has made so much progress since he got his special shoes.  Other than of course being more comfortable and energetic, Bryant is starting to interact with other horses.  He joined in Buckley’s favorite game of nip and scream, and raced around the arena in a game of chase with Pete, Mowen and Josey.  Perhaps Bryant has stayed to himself all this time because he didn’t feel sound enough for horse play with the guys.  Perhaps he…

Equamore Sanctuary’s Christmas at the Barn

This afternoon, Equamore Sanctuary hosted a Christmas at the Barn party with stable tours, stories about the horses, and hot chocolate, cider, and other goodies, creating a wonderful opportunity for the community to learn more about Equamore. It was a beautiful, sunny (if chilly) afternoon, and all visitors arriving at the barn were first greeted by Magic, below. After saying hello to Magic, visitors walked through the barn, where Equamore board members, staff, and volunteers were on hand to introduce…

Equamore featured in Ashland Daily Tidings

The Ashland Daily Tidings published a feature today about animal rescue and people in the community who support rescue groups and sanctuaries in many different ways. Along with the Tidings feature is a video featuring members of the community who rescue animals — including a few voices from Equamore. Executive director Linda Davis talks about having been around horses all her life and having seen a lot of neglect, abuse, and cruelty — and, all too often, she’s found that horses have nowhere to…
