Bet for the horses!

Betting for the Horses

1/12/13 My little person likes to gamble.  After I heard she had won money for the precious Sara, for the General (he is awesome) and for my good friend Magic, I sent her to the local casino to bet for me.  HA!  Of course I won – $800 to be exact.  Sweet!  How many baby carrots can $800 buy? Some of our horses here at the Sanctuary are Thoroughbreds who used to race.  From what I understand, they were expected…

Oh Good Grief!

Sometimes I worry about myself.  Magic and I have not been able to go to the fields lately.  I really don’t know whose feet are keeping us in.  The doors to our runs have been closed to keep one of us out of the mud.  This is sad – I love mud!  I also love standing in my run looking out to the fields, day dreaming and remembering Hoover.  We have been able to run around the indoor arena which…

Shoes

December 28, 2012 Yesterday, I was galloping in the arena with the guys and I ran right out of my boots!  I am Thor!  One boot just flew off, tearing the strap with it.  You should have seen it fly!  Ha!  Imagine my power!  The other came off but was trailing behind me because the strap did not break.  I just kept running!  I love that I can get them off, but like how good my feet feel when they…

These Boots Are Made for Walkin’…. And Trotting and Galloping

December 5, 2012 I never in a million years thought I would accessorize.  I used to tease Hoover about his blankets and boots.  Now I tease Magic about his blanket.  The fly mask was supposed to be my limit. But I have boots!  My front feet have been hurting for a long time.  Today a man I have seen before came and took some odd inside pictures of my front feet.  I’m not completely sure what happened – people always…

Anniversary

November 29, 2012 One year ago today Hoover and I came to the Sanctuary.  I normally don’t think much about dates and just live day to day.  Some days are great, some not so much.  But one year ago today will stay in my mind forever.  That was the day the people came for us and took us to a safe place with food and shelter and cared for Hoover and where no one treated me badly.  I didn’t know…

Mud

Mud

November 27, 2012 The cold and rainy season is here.  While I am still in the mare field with Magic, the field isn’t dry anymore.  We have mud!  Beautiful, slimy, slippery mud!  My morning roll is the best ever – I get mud all over my back, along my neck and through my spectacular (if I may say so) mane. Each morning now I look for the wonderful mud from my run, hoping it is still there and waiting to…

Life – a Haiku

November 13, 2012 Life – a Haiku Green grass, room to roam. Run swift, gallop, valley view. Freedom gives me life. Hoover, Magic, Finn. Friends, some here and some passed on. My herd gives me life. Sweet grain, honeycrisp. Food inspiration, comfort, calm. Eating gives me life. Boss and little one. Caring, touching, share a breath. Hah! Hah! Not a chance! I crack myself up sometimes!  Magic needed the laugh, too.  I may be in the dry old mare field,…

Thor, feeling blue

I am Blue

November 10, 2012 I am trying to keep a good attitude, Hoover.  Really I am. The truth is things are different for me lately.  I am limping and don’t know why.  I didn’t use to notice it as much.  The humans have put me in a different pasture where there is no green grass, with Magic, whose feet hurt, and Preston who also can’t have green grass.  I like these guys a lot (although Preston is very pushy about who…

The New Guy

We have had a lot of new horses at the Sanctuary.  I guess times are hard, and humans are what they are.  One came in a recently named Raffie.  This guy is amazing.  He is starving – I mean a sack of bones.  He still has some of his winter hair – from last winter!  His tail is broken – he can’t swish away the flies.  I can’t even tell what kind of horse he is – he is so…

Tribute to a Lady

September 30, 2012 Last week a new mare came to Equamore.  The boss rightfully named her Lady.  Normally, I don’t care much for mares, but this one was different.  A bag of bones – unbelievably starved.  But her face was beautiful and her attitude sweet and gentle.  She reminded me a bit of Hoover in her kind nature. Yesterday she died.  I guess she was so too frail to recover by the time she got here.  The humans here sure…
